Getting Back to Routine

Kids went back to school this week, and though I’m sad to say goodbye to summer, I have to admit I’m excited for fall. We had an activity packed summer  and now I’m looking forward to getting back into a routine.

I came across this post and felt a real call to establish a healthy routine for the upcoming school year, for the kids and also myself.

Question: do you still think of the year as a school year. For me, most of my routine and goals kick in in September.

Getting Back to a Routine

I joined the local Y a few months ago and my plan is continue to go at least 4x a week. I used to join their exercise classes, but I found that the stress of trying to get the kids to school and make it on time was too much.

Instead, I’m using the Peloton app and doing their strength, bike and other classes. If you’re looking for a way to jump start your exercise routine, I’d definitely consider the free Peloton app. I love that it’s a personal training built in with music—I find their classes engaging and motivating and if you find the right instructor, fun!

As a reward, I’ve been updating my workout clothes. This is my favorite leggings brand at the moment, and I also own a ton of their tops. I even made an Instagram reel about them.

Looking forward to adding this recipe to our weekly dinner menu this week. I’m serving orzo pasta with meatballs. I’ll keep the orzo pasta plain for the kids and then add the toppings for us— an easy compromise for everyone. I also thought about setting up a “add your own toppings” pasta bar to encourage trying something new.

I did a huge H&M shopping haul, because their early fall arrivals looked so good.  Found some really great pieces.

Next I’m on the hunt for a fall bag. I have my eyes on this one and also this one. Basically, something woven and black with lots of versatility and movement.
