A Closer Look at My Capsule Wardrobe Pieces

First, I am a serious outfit repeater. This is why my capsule wardrobe of 2023 isn’t robust. Instead, these are great items that I’ve added that helped me get dressed for my current life. There is a lot of comfort and easy lounge pieces that are part of my everyday capsule because that’s what currently works for me.

It’s important to note that for you a capsule wardrobe may look different. But regardless of what your current life looks like if you’re a SAHM, a work from home girlie or career woman—there are certain pieces that are simply essentials to a good closet. Like a great pair of jeans, a good sneaker, a white button down and a solid blazer. If you start with these good basics it’s easy to start building the rest of your 2024 style. Here is a closer look at my capsule wardrobe pieces that I hope will inspire you to find yours.

Sweaters & Blazers

Wrap Cardigan — the exact color is sold out, but the cream and black version of this cardigan are on sale. Cozy and comfortable I paired it with white jeans and satin skirt throughout the year.

Coatigan— another piece I find myself reaching for all the time. It just elevates simple looks. It’s currently sold out, but it comes back in stock every now and then. There is an Amazon version that I know have had positive reviews.

Black Blazer— If you were looking to update or invest in a good quality black blazer this one is cut in a classic shape that will last you for years.

Tops & Bodysuits

White Button Down Shirt — easily one of the most versatile items to add to a capsule wardrobe. A white button down shirt is a year-around piece you can layer for winter or even wear as a bathing suit cover up in the summer.

Bodysuit— purchased this on a recommendation of a friend and have worn it repeatedly since. It’s double lined, comfortable and looks great with jeans and as a layering winter piece.

Black Lace Bodysuit — worn this to several nights out, and packed it for a trip this year. It’s such a flattering and sexy piece to own. It sinches you in, but allows you to breath. Love it paired with jeans and a black blazer.

Activewear & Lounge Sets

Lounge set— lounge set or not, this one is such a great winner. Perfect wide leg pants with pockets.

Half Zip Sweater— wear this weekly, paired with leggings it’s comfortable and a really good lookalike for a much more expensive Lululemon scuba sweatshirt.

Leggings— I own 4 pairs of these leggings. If you’re looking for great compression and for leggings to suck you in, these are not it. However, if you’re looking for soft buttery feel these are sublime.

Knit Set—I sized up to a medium in this set and it’s going to be the first thing I reach for when the weather gets warm. I’ve worn both pieces separately, especially love how the knit top looks with jeans. Great buy, also would be great for vacation. [ More vacation picks here]

Varley Half Zip Sweater— I typically do not splurge on activewear because it always seems to get stained or ruined, but I’ve had this Vine Pullover for over 2 years and still wear it at least once a week. It’s a splurge, but considering how great it looks several years down the line its worth every penny.

Denim & Pants

Levi’s Jeans—these were a great hit for me this year. They’re petite friendly and the only jeans I didn’t have to cut to wear with flats or sneakers. As a bonus the straight leg also looks great with heels and the wash is perfect for any time of the year.

Black Jeans— These have been my favorite for a few years. They’re a little more, but are often on sale. I would set up an alert and snag these to try. Their sizing is a little unpredictable which can be annoying, but as far as jeans go Abercrombie does a really solid job.

Wide Leg Jeans—another great find were H&M jeans this year. I have several pairs and would highly recommend getting a couple of styles to try on if you’re looking to update your denim.

Faux Leather Pants — I can honestly say I am surprised at how often I wear these. The obvious choice is to pair these pants with heels, but I quickly realized these pants also look great with ballet flats or sneakers.

Shoes & Accessories

Dad Sandals — Purchased these sandals last Spring and wore them endlessly. I love how they pair with summer dresses and shorts and also with jeans and pants as the weather cooled. First thing I am packing for our upcoming vacation.

New Balance 327s Sneakers— the most comfortable and stylish sneaker, truly why they’re most popular because they’re worth the hype.

Sunglasses—Love these and as far as sunglasses go, they’re relatively inexpensive, and always look chic.

Cap—purchased this one twice, it’s the perfect cap if you ask me.

Silver slingback heels—I had my eye on these for a while, and so glad I finally purchased. Comfortable and stylish and they’re the perfect pop of something unexpected.

Ballet Flats— These are comfortable and so very pretty. I love how they elevate a simple jeans and bodysuit outfit.

Bags & Totes

Quilted Tote—This is my morning gym back, but most days it stays by my side. I purchased in olive green and found that the color is very complimentary to virtually everything I add with it.

Clare V Bag— I’ve used this bag so much that it’s been hard to actually go back to using a purse you have to hold all night. It’s just effortlessly chic while being one of the most convenient everyday bags I own.

Woven Satchel— The bone white color of this tote works with everything in my wardrobe. I especially like how it pairs with my Sam Edelman Loraine loafers, also a great closet staple I’ve had for several years.
