It’s Halloween: Witches Dinner Party

This Halloween our plan is to stay in, but I still wanted to share in the holiday that blew my mind as a kid. Since going door-to-door requesting free candy may no longer be appropriate, a Halloween dinner party was a great way to participate from the comforts of home.

My east coast girlfriends will be in town, so a girls night celebrating Halloween seemed like a given. Here are all the things I’m planning to pull off the Halloween dinner party. Sharing decor ideas as well as what’s on the menu.

Set the Mood

I added spooky and fun touches to the table. Seeing a decorated table always puts everyone in a festive mood.

I like the idea of helping guests identify their wine glasses, so I decorated each glass with some flair. After a few dinner parties though, I always end up with a few broken wine glasses. I used to go out and try to find new glassware that would match, but now I like to instead just buy glasses I like. After a while, all the different glassware gives a dinner table an eclectic look, and also helps guests find their own wine.

To keep with the theme, I decided to serve Shrimp & Lump Crab Fra Diavolo, a spicy tomato based sauce which translates to brother devil.

To make it even more Halloween-y I found black linguine made with squid ink at an Italian specialty shop on Balboa Island. (Recipe and instructions below.)

Initially, I also wanted to make a specialty cocktail for the night, but my girlfriends and me are such winos, besides there isn’t a drink that would pair better with a spicy seafood pasta than a good bottle of wine, or three.

Then, serve lots of wine and have a great Halloween.
