Sometimes you can take that little black dress out of your closet or find something that you would wear again, but other times you look at your closet and realize there is nothing exciting in there. Here is why I think a wedding season with rent the runway is the way to go. You can definitely find your ultimate wedding guest dress on Rent the Runway.
Last night Mauricio and I officially kicked off the wedding season with a fabulous wedding in Los Angeles. Weddings are truly my favorite kind of date night. You get to eat, drink, dance and celebrate a beautiful moment of someone’s life. It’s also an excuse to dress up.
The Ultimate Wedding Guest Dress with Rent the Runway
First, we have a total of six weddings that we are excited to attend this year, and while I certainly can put on a LBD to one of them, I don’t want to wear the same outfit all year long. I could purchase a new dress and wear it to more than one wedding, but honestly I know that would make me not so thrilled to go. I know what you wear to a wedding isn’t the most important part, but it’s also a lovely excuse to dress up.

So, I decided that instead of investing into a dress and making myself wear it more than once, I am going to rent them—and actually save money in the process!
The dress that I wore was a Marchesa Notte, Ice Bell Bloom Sheath and it retails for $600. I only paid $100! I would have to wear this dress at least 6x to justify the cost of purchasing it, but for a hundred bucks I had something shipped to my house that I didn’t even have to dry clean, all you have to do is send it back in the same garment bag!
Perfect looks for any wedding event from Rent the Runway!
There are also accessories, if you need them. I knew I had shoes and a clutch that would work well with this dress. I did want to wear this beautiful cocktail ring, but it’s currently lost misplaced because Fernando Luka loves to play in my jewelry box.
If you’ve never used Rent the Runway here is how it works:
Start by selecting the dates for which you need a dress and then you can choose by selecting color, designer, occasion or size. Basically, the process is the same as when you shop online. After selecting a dress, Rent the Runway sends you two sizes of the same dress, so you can make sure it fits well. Then, you also select a “back-up” dress. This is your second choice which Rent the Runway will overnight to you, if either of the sizes of your first choice do not work out. It could be a little nerve wracking to receive a dress only a day or two before you need it, but between three dresses, I figured one would definitely work.
Here are a few tips when ordering from Rent the Runway:
- It can be tempting to try a style or fit you’ve never wore before because Rent the Runway has amazing selection of designer dresses at fraction of the cost, but it’s best to stick with a style you know works well for your body. For example, strapless dresses typically do not work for me, because my girls need a lot of extra support, so when looking for dresses I knew I needed to find something I could wear with a bra.
- Pay close attention to photos of real customers. Seeing how the dresses fit women with bodies similar to mine made the decision easier for me.
- Have an idea of what you would like to wear. I knew I wanted a light color, form fitting dress so that’s what I looked for when making my selection.
- While you should certainly find a dress that you know would be most flattering for your body type, push yourself to try something a little more daring than usual! The only other time that I have ever worn lace was on my wedding day, so it was a great opportunity to treat myself to a dress I normally would not buy.
Have you tried Rent the Runway before?
