Undergarment secrets

[ Dress [ sold out] similar , shoes , bag is vintage]

Most of the clothes I buy have to pass my two rule test: First, if the item is pricey it should be timeless, so I can wear it again and again. Second, I try to determine whether I am buying it because it accentuates my body, or because it’s on trend.

Since, I’m short and curvy, hardly anything that I see on the runway and is trendy, looks good on me. But then, there are times when you see something, and you can care less how much it is, or where you’re going to wear it, you just have to have it. Screw the rules. Who going to check me, boo?

That’s how I ended up buying a dress that I had no business wearing. It was clearly meant for a small chested woman, who could go without a bra, and a skinny minnie that wouldn’t need spanx or shapewear to make it happen. I am neither, but I vowed to make it work, which included trying on every possible undergarment under the sun.

I found some winners at Target. My fave undergarment is Maidenform’s Self Expressions Body Con High Waist Boyshorts, and they’re cheap ( $13.99)!

Shapewear works great for me not only because it tightens and hides cellulite, but also because it improved my posture. I noticed when I have on the right shapewear, that isn’t too tight and actually feels comfortable my entire body elongates.

The boy shorts are also a great option, you look like you might be going commando, because there are no panty lines, but you feel comfortable and pulled together. They also make a longer bike short option if you want to make your hips and legs appear slimmer, but who the heck wants to wear basically another outfit in the summer time?
