Living just minutes from the ocean means a girl has got to stay beach-ready, at all times. Which for me means prepping my skin to look its best all season long. Enter my DIY anti-cellulite exfoliating scrub made out of the ingredients you likely already have at home. How awesome is that? Also part of my summer skin prep is an appointment for a Brazilian wax. Exfoliating and waxing has really made such a difference for me, read on for my experience at Waxing The City and why it’s part of my regular beauty routine.

how to get a Brazilian wax

To not have to worry about razor burn made me a wax convert many years ago, and I am never going back.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while than you know I’m an avid DIYer and that definitely extends to beauty treatments. I’ve tried it all from DIY bath bombs to DIY manis.

And in an effort to get my body ready for summer, I even tried to give myself a Brazilian wax. That’s how I learned there are some things better left to the professionals…

how to get a wax

My DIY attempt at a wax at home was a horror show.

I cried.

I laughed.

I drank wine.

I ultimately gave up half way through and decided to never ever try to DIY that again.

I have no idea why someone would ever do that to themselves.

Why am I a Brazilian Believer?

First of all, when waxing is done consistently, hair grows back slower, finer, and sparser, giving you better long-term results, so eventually your appointments will be further apart, as less hair grows down there.

From my personal experience I can also share that the most painful parts are actually right where your bikini sits, not the part your suit hides, if you catch my drift 🙂

But, taking a deep breath helps. Waxing The City have done half a million Brazilians, so you’ll be in safe hands, and once you go completely bare down there, you’ll be a Brazilian Believer, like me.

I love that a quick appointment helps me stay bikini ready, and also takes off one more thing to do in the shower!

Is Waxing for You?

Last weekend when I flew to Philly to celebrate my parents’ 40th Wedding Anniversary, I realized that I would be skipping my regular appointment. So I called Waxing The City, a few minutes from my parents house and recruited my sister to come along.

My parents were planning a pool party, so we both needed some TLC before the event!

Waxing The City  just recently opened and the place is small, comfortable and everyone is so sweet and friendly. There is plenty of parking and if you’re from Philadelphia then they’re right off the Roosevelt Boulevard. So conveniently located, too.

If you suffer from razor bumps and your skin is very sensitive, you might be surprised to learn that waxing in that region can help heal your skin! Yep. Waxing isn’t as scary as they make it out in the movies. I swear!

My sister had a few bad experiences, so she went in to this appointment with a little skepticism.

When it comes to waxing two things are most important. A skilled professional to do the job and the kind of wax the place uses. Waxing The City got those two things so right!

Our Waxing Expert Cecilia was gentle, knowledgeable and so comforting that my sister has already made plans with my mom to come to her next appointment.

(By the way, right now first time guests can receive 50% off their service, so it was easy to convince my mom to come along! Ha!)

Cecilia also gave my sister really helpful suggestions like to exfoliate and sleep without underwear on. ( I of course totally told my sister about my exfoliating habits, but we all know sisters never listen to you, right?)

Plus, Waxing The City uses hard wax that acts like shrink wrap, gently pulling the hair. The appointment was also a little longer, that’s because they use small pieces of wax, so you’re more comfortable. And they’re all about precision, not speed.

The salon has really great exfoliating products too, and your expert can make recommendations based on your personal needs, so it’s easy to make it part of your routine.

The After-Care

It took me a while to realize that there are things you can do to have a more positive waxing experience, like exfoliating the area in the shower with a daily scrub. Exfoliating has made a tremendous difference for me, as well as finding salons like Waxing the City, with experts that know what they’re doing and products that work.

Have I convinced you to give a Brazilian a try this summer? Call or book an appointment with Waxing The City so you can enjoy a hair-free, care-free summer.

I never tried getting one. My pain threshold is really low and I might scream my head off when I get it done down there. My niece regularly goes for one and yes, she did say that her hair down there is finer now.

This is the one thing I’ve refused to DIY so far. It’s not fun getting one but it’s so nice to not have to worry about it for weeks and week after!

I want to try this so bad, but I admit I am SO scared to do it haha I’m horrible with any sort of pain. Even waxing my eyebrows is horrible sometimes lol my eyes water so bad and I always swear I won’t do I again lol
