Peplum Tops Are the New Basic Tee

It may have seemed like a trend just a few short years ago, but it looks like peplum tops are here to stay. And that’s a good thing, because I’ve been loving them. I have a few dressy peplum style tops in the closet, but lately I’ve been finding peplum details on more casual tops. Now, I’m stocking up on them, and you should too. Read on for why peplum tops are the new basic tee.

For the better part of last year, I wore tee shirts and lots of athleisure outfits, because leggings and stretchy tops are the most comfortable items to put on while taking care of a baby or after working all week—which was also my life before baby. But, after a while these items start to make you feel frumpy. That’s why I’m loving that casual tops are re-emerging with these peplum details, because they really spruce up an otherwise simple outfit, and adds visual interest to a casual look. Yet, you’re still super comfortable.

Here I’m wearing this Charming Charlie top, which is $25 , my favorite Paige black jeans and a chunky knit I found at TJ Maxx a few years ago.

Another reason peplum tops are the new basic tee is that they are flattering on every body. If you’re curvy, the peplum accentuates your curves, and if you have an athletic build, it helps create an hourglass figure. It also hides your belly, if you had a burger for lunch… I speak from experience.
