Miu Miu Inspired DIY Lace Up Ballet Flats

I came across a pair of $20 nude flats at Target and they immediately reminded me of the Miu Miu  pair I kept seeing everywhere. The Target version didn’t have the sexy lace ties, but I knew I could fix it with all that ribbon I had leftover from my last DIY. Ballet flats are nothing new, but the lace really upgrades this fall basic with a fun twist.  If you already have flats in your closet, you can make these Miu Miu inspired DIY lace up ballet flats in just a few minutes by adding ribbon—duh!

The real version of these are a little too pricey for me. And if you’re thinking that you don’t want to ruin the flats you already have by adding ribbon to them, don’t worry, we are not actually destroying the shoe!

Here is how to create these Miu Miu dupes:

Cut two even pieces of ribbon, each piece being about a yard and a half, or 65 inches long or so. You want to have a lot of extra ribbon, to be able to tie it around your leg. The Miu Miu version gives lots of lace.  Now, you’re going to wrap the ribbon/lace once around the arch of your foot and step into your flat. The ribbon should be even in length at each side.

Now, take your laces and tie them up around your leg. That’s it. You just made this DIY happen.
At first, I was going to attach the ribbon to each side of the flat, but I didn’t want to commit to always having the laces. This way,  I can even buy other lace color or prints, or just wear the flats without the laces on those lazy days.
I think these ballet flats work best with skirts or dresses, so you can really show off the lace. I paired mine with a flower print Free People summer dress which I got on sale last year,  topped with an oversized knit sweater.
