It finally feels like summer around here and that means the kitchen is closed. Yep. This mom is on a cooking sabbatical, and dad is in charge of the grill. And you know what is the best thing to do while dad is slaving at the grill? Have an ice cream social—it’s the new summer happy hour and all are welcome. Yep. Right before dinnertime, we indulge in a little ice cream. Isn’t summer about breaking the rules, just a little?
Ok. I may have lied. I’m not on a complete sabbatical. I’ll still help with sides and drinks and dessert—but for the most part we grill all of our meals, which is a nice break. Sometimes I make salads and sides from scratch and even dessert. Other times, I stop at an Albertsons on my way home and pick up ready-made salads, and the best kind of dessert of all —ice cream.
We are a family of ice cream lovers. From Häagen-Dazs® and Nestlé® Drumsticks® to Outshine® Fruit Bars, everyone gets to pick their favorite and if you’re my toddler switch with someone mid-way through 🙂
Make it an Ice Cream Social
Summer also means entertaining, and a part of me used to stress about what to make for dessert that everyone would like, and then it occurred to me. Everyone, no matter what age loves ice cream. So, I pick up our Nestlé® favorites and let everyone help themselves, once I roll out my bar cart.
How To Make an Ice Cream Social Bar Cart
Put a little ice on your trays, add the ice cream, lots of napkins, cups and spoons and you have a proper Ice Cream Social. It’s the easiest dessert station you’ll ever make and it’s sure to be a hit with everyone at your get together.
Have you tried the new Häagen-Dazs® Bourbon Vanilla—it was meant for a summer happy hour. It’s delicious and definitely only for adults, which makes it fun to serve on 4th of July, while the kids are busy with fireworks and their own ice cream.
Happy Summer Everyone!
