I have to admit the first time I ever had fondue, I wasn’t quite sold on the idea.

Melty cheese, some standard veggies and bread? Hard pass.

But, what if I told you that this isn’t a 70s fondue party.

It’s an elevated, delicious version of old school fondue with a fun twist.

There are countless variations for fondue cheese, and honestly you can’t really go wrong on this part.

I skipped the traditional Swiss cheese and opted for a selection of the cheeses above from Trader Joe’s .

I also highly recommend a little bit of brandy and nutmeg to finish off your fondue recipe.

You don’t have to feel limited by the traditional fondue options of green apples and sourdough bread.

But, those are still what you would serve for a great fondue.

I also added roasted vegetables: Brussel sprouts, cauliflower florets and

red potatoes and they were delicious with our best fondue recipe.

How to Cook Vegetables for Fondue

To roast the Brussels, potatoes and cauliflower I tossed them in olive oil a heavy sprinkle of salt and pepper and 2 cloves of garlic, chopped. I roasted the vegetables for fondue at 425 for 30 minutes.

Note, the potatoes may need more time.

I like adding protein to fondue dinner, so that everyone is not only filling up on bread.

Shrimp, sausage and steak all work great for fondue dinner.

You could also serve cured meats, or other vegetables such as asparagus and broccoli.

Making fondue at home is incredibly easy and it’s not time consuming or difficult.

You can make the fondue cheese recipe ahead of time as well as chop most of your dippers.

This will save you a ton of time.

The other important item is your fondue pot. I love the look and style of this one

and I also love that you don’t have to have the fondue pot plugged in while using it.

The Ultimate Fondue Dinner Party Recipe

The most delicious fondue and some unique dippers make for the ultimate fondue dinner
Servings 4


  • 1/3 lb gruyere
  • 1/3 lb  fontina
  • 1/3 lb  gouda
  • 2 tbs cornstarch
  • 1 cup dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 2 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp  fresh lemon juice 
  • 1 tbsp  brandy 
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard 
  • 1/8 tsp  nutmeg


  • roasted baby potatoes  
  • roasted cauliflower florets 
  • roasted Brussels sprouts
  • Cherry tomatoes 
  • 2 lb steak tips
  • 1 apples, cubed
  • 1 lb sausage, sliced
  • sourdough bread, cubed
  • 1/2 lbs grilled shrimp


  • Grate all of the cheeses.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the cheeses with the cornstarch, tossing thoroughly to coat all pieces.
  • In a large heavy saucepan, bring the wine, garlic, and lemon juice to a simmer over medium-low heat.
  • Add the cheeses to the liquid mixture a little at a time, stirring between each addition to ensure a smooth fondue. Once smooth, stir in the brandy, mustard, and nutmeg.
  • Arrange an assortment of bite-size dipping foods on a platter. If necessary, carefully pour the fondue into a fondue pot. Dip and enjoy!
