Favorite Things from October

Family beach photo shoot

We didn’t do a professional shoot until he was almost 7 months old. A friend said I would regret not doing maternity or newborn photos, but I didn’t and still don’t. I knew I wanted to wait until our baby started to look like himself, would be able to sit and smile for the camera and most of all, I also wanted to wait until we felt like a family, with our new addition. Finally doing our photo shoot though ended up being my absolute favorite things from October.

I’ll share more photos soon. But in the mean time, I’m still relishing the experience. Our photographer was super friendly and such an expert with baby FLO, and she was even game with us bringing Benny along. Driving home, Mau and I both said that it actually felt like a little date. We walked up and down the beach holding hands, playing with the baby. It also helped that we both got dressed up. It sounds incredibly cheesy, but it was a nice way to spend an afternoon, and having photos is a great perk! Now, on to the rest of my favorite things from October.

One of my pregnancy luxuries was getting monthly pedicures and manicures. I continued getting a manis and pedis for a few months after having the baby too, and I really enjoyed it. But now I went back to doing my own nails, because it’s quicker and doesn’t require a lot of planning. And with my favorite top coat, and quality nail polish my nails are done and dry in under a half hour.  My own nail job really does last as long as the salon, and looks just as good, in my opinion. [I shared my quick steps to a perfect mani here.] Two cheers to saving time and money!

HomeFavorite Things From October

I spent most of October avoiding the slippery slope that is everything pumpkin at the stores. I have yet to even have a Pumpkin Spiced Latte at Starbucks. I am really trying not to be that basic fall chick. But, there is only so many times you can go food shopping and avoid the Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix, especially because they took it up a notch, with the Pumpkin Butter. I have now made these muffins three times, and we are on our second jar of the butter. But, in my defense, these are the necessary tools needed for my commitment to fika. Right? Get the muffin bread and the butter before Trader Joe’s runs out. Or don’t, if you don’t want to be addicted.

One of our major changes this month was baby FLO’s ability to sit on his own. And now, I am so looking forward to having him sit in the cart while shopping and also in a high chair, when we are out. At first, I wasn’t going to get a cover, but one trip to the store had me ordering it from Amazon immediately. The carts are so filthy. I’m loving this handy thing, and so is Baby FLO.

Speaking of being a basic chick, my go to October favorites have been the simple basics that I’ve had forever. Like the black military jacket I got at H&M a few years ago, ( a good deal on similar one here). This striped tee has been on repeat and the Vince Camuto booties have been in my closet for the last three years. It’s really worth to splurge a little on these fall basics to wear year after year.

Few more great deals for fall basics below
